Why Buying a House in Today’s Real Estate Market is Like Shopping at SYMS

If you have ever shopped at Syms, “where an educated consumer is our best customer”, then you know the drill. Off-price merchandise arrives at the store and is marked at it’s opening price. From there, the article is systematically and progressively marked down week after week until it sells. If you have tastes different from the main-stream, you can
really “clean up” shopping at Syms.
Well, the same is true about today’s so-called “buyer’s market”. Consider today’s Fairfield County CT real estate market as the Syms of house shopping.
In Ridgefield, Redding & Wilton CT, like most of the Country, we are seeing a great variety of homes on the market with realistic opening prices. When inventory is up, homes tend to stay on the market longer.
Couple that with the recent lowering of interest rates, and you’ve got market conditions just about as perfect as you can have to buy a new home. In fact, if you have been thinking about upgrading, this is the market to do it in. Savvy buyers can really get a good deal on many of the homes on the market. Especially on the high-end.
So, the climate of the real estate market today has become exactly like discount shopping at Syms. The homes that are in great locations, are in good condition, and are priced fairly are still selling quickly, much like the popular designer items that sell at their original prices at Syms. Homes that may need some TLC, are less stylish, and may not be in prime locations, are being marked down systematically and consistently until they sell. Go ahead, monitor homes and prices, and “pounce” when you see a great deal…they are out there!
